A friendship thicker than blood
For two decades we have been sisters by heart. Our birthdays are two days apart, and so are our children's, almost to the day. Now we are putting that same love into helping children read, learn and feel good about themselves.

Every book has read-along text with narration, spelling practice words and a worksheet. Each story carries a gentle lesson: love, kindness, standing up to bullying, caring for the planet, saying please and thank you.

Extra reading lessons, with patience and love
For children who find reading hard, roughly Grade R to Grade 3, and older children who need to catch up. We teach in Afrikaans, English, isiZulu and Sepedi, and we always start where your child is.

Why children love our lessons
We combine a teacher's reading methods with a counsellor's care. When a child feels safe and believed in, reading follows.

Confidence and feelings
Some children have learned to believe "I can't read." We help them unlearn that, gently.
Helping at home, one small step at a time
Practical ideas from a teacher and a counsellor. You don't need to be an expert, you just need ten minutes and a warm voice.
Read together for ten minutes a day
Little and often beats one long session. Sit close, let your child hold the book and turn the pages. Stop while they are still enjoying it.
Praise the effort, not only the answer
Say "You kept trying on that hard word!" instead of just "Well done." Children who feel their effort is noticed keep going.
Read in your home language
Stories in the language a child dreams in build strong roots. Those skills carry over when they learn to read in a second language.
Ask questions about the story
"How do you think Mia felt?" "What would you do?" Talking about feelings in stories helps children understand their own.
When reading brings tears or tantrums
Stop, breathe together and name the feeling: "This feels frustrating." Go back to an easier book they can read well, then end on a win.
If worry or frustration keeps coming back, speak to us. As a counsellor, Sanet works with children and families on anxiety, confidence and big feelings.
Make words part of everyday life
Read shopping lists, road signs, cereal boxes and birthday cards together. Reading is everywhere, not only in books.

We started Two Hearts Learning because we have seen too many children believe they are "not clever" simply because reading is hard for them. It isn't true. With patience, the right book and someone who believes in them, every child can learn.
